The Grinch Hopper
When compiling a list of Christmas movie-inspired cocktails for BHG.com (read the article here), I knew I wanted to include the Grinch. If you search the interwebs even briefly, you'll come across a ridiculous amount of bright green Grinch-inspired adult beverages. The problem? They all rely on melon liqueur to get that Grinchy green hue. And then they're filled with all sorts of tropical flavors. What in the actual what? How is that even a Christmas drink? So instead, I opted for a Christmassy spin on the minty grasshopper, including a fun dollop of very Suessian-looking meringue on top.
Makes one serving.
Ingredients:
a few peppermint candies
1 fresh egg white
1 oz. plus 1/2 tsp. creme de menthe liqueur
2 oz. creme de cacao liqueur
2 oz. chartreuse liqueur
1 oz. heavy cream
1/4 tsp. peppermint extract
ice
Start by putting your peppermint candies in the food processor and running them until a fine dust is formed. Next, place the egg white in a small mixing bowl. Whip the white until stiff peaks form, then add the 1/2 tsp. creme de menthe for color. Set aside.
In a cocktail shaker combine all other ingredients with ice. Shake thoroughly until cold, and strain into a chilled coupe glass. Now spoon your green whipped egg whites into a plastic bag, cut off the corner, and pipe the foam in a spiral onto the top of your drink. Sprinkle with peppermint candy dust.
Just look at that Grinchy chicken face.
