Mulled Rosé & Whimsy

If you're looking for a viable excuse to keep drinking rosé all through the un-warm months (Do we need an excuse? Do we, really?), here it is, my pretties...Here it is. Heat up that lovely wine, throw in some mulling spices (and a little extra alcohol), get cozy, and keep drinking.

Why the 'whimsy'? Because chickens are whimsical, dammit. And also because I added a splash of my favorite liqueur, Pomp + Whimsy to it. If you don't have access to this gorgeous spirit (first of all, remedy that), elderflower liqueur would work, in a pinch.

Makes four servings.

  • 1 bottle dry rosé

  • 1/4 cup Pomp & Whimsy liqueur

  • 1/8 cup good quality grenadine (or homemade)

  • 1/4 cup fresh pomegranate seeds

  • 1/4 cup fresh halved cranberries

  • 1 orange, sliced (bonus points if it's a pink Cara Cara orange)

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 6 cloves

  • 8 cardamom pods

  • Fresh orange slices, cranberries, and pom seeds for garnish

  • cinnamon stick and star anise for garnish

Add all ingredients to a pot and bring to a simmer over medium high heat. As soon as it begins to simmer, turn the flame to low and slow simmer for a half hour. You can either strain the cooked fruit from the mix and serve with fresh garnish, or leave it and serve as is.

You ever think about how mulled wine is really just hot sangria? Cool, cool, cool...me neither.
