International Drinking with Chickens Day 2025

Get ready for the most wonderful time of the year!

International Drinking with Chickens Day is Friday, May 23rd and here’s your full guide on how to join in on the celebration.

WHAT IN THE…?

Drinking with Chickens Day is one big (inter)national excuse to get together and drink in the company of poultry. And while yes, yes it’s true that every day can be Drinking with Chickens Day….this is the day where a party is mandatory. And a theme. I didn’t make the rules. Actually, that’s a lie, I definitely made the rules. But I digress.

This year’s theme: Caftans, Cocktails, and Chickens. What does that mean? It means we’re going to dress in our finest caftans like the ladies of leisure that we are, sip fancy drinks and pet fancy chickens. And for the guys (or anyone who doesn’t want to rock a caftan—but also, bonus points for any guy who wants to rock a caftan), we’re thinking this translates to smoking jackets + ascots, or some sort of vacay-vibes yachtwear (tropical shirts, captain’s hats, docksiders, etc). Get creative! Take lots of pics and videos and when you share to social media, be sure to tag @drinkingwithchickens and use the hashtag #nationaldrinkingwithchickensday so I can share as many as humanly possible on the day of.

You maybe wondering, “But Kate,” (I like it for us that we’re on a first name basis), “I want to join in the festivities but I don’t have chickens!” YOU KNOW I WANT TO SEE ALL THE PRECIOUS ANIMALS! Don’t hold out on me!!! Dogs, cats, goats, guinea pigs, betta fish—everyone gets to be in on the fun!

BEHOLD:

Meyer Lemon Marmalade French 75

featuring Griffo Distillery Scott Street Gin

Makes 1 serving

1-1/2 oz. gin
1/2 oz. lemon juice
1/4-1/2 oz. Meyer Lemon Marmalade Syrup
- Combine a 1:1 ratio of Marmalade and hot water, stir to dissolve. Allow to cool before using.
3 oz. dry sparkling wine

Add gin, lemon juice, and syrup to a champagne coupe or flute and stir. Top with sparkling wine and garnish.

Orange Chocolate Whiskey Sour

featuring Griffo Distillery Stout Barreled Whiskey

Makes 1 serving

2 oz. whiskey
1 oz. lemon juice
3/4 oz. orange simple syrup
1 medium egg white (optional)
3 dashes chocolate bitters

In a cocktail shaker with no ice (unless you’re skipping the egg white, then go ahead and shake with ice), combine whiskey, lemon juice, syrup, and egg white and shake vigorously for ten seconds. Add ice and shake for another ten seconds. Strain into a coupe or rocks glass (adding ice to glass is optional). Drop 3 drops of bitters across the top and garnish.

HIbiscus Cosmopolitan

featuring Griffo Distillery Vodka

Makes 1 serving

1-1/2 oz. vodka
3/4 oz. cranberry juice
3/4 oz. cooled hibiscus tea
1/2 oz. elderflower liqueur
1/2 oz. lime juice

In a cocktail shaker with ice, shake all ingredients until chilled and double strain into a coupe or martini glass. Garnish with an edible flower.

Espresso Martini

Featuring Griffo Distillery RTD Espresso Martini

To make 1 serving:

Add 3.5 oz. of RTD Espresso Martini into a shaker over ice. Shake until chilled and strain into a martini or coupe glass. Garnish with exactly three coffee beans or else it’s bad luck.
